She is the darling of the left. She also wants to keep Bashar al-Assad in power.
Hawaii’s Tulsi Gabbard showed a willingness to fight President Obama about his policies about Syria, and she also secretly visited that country earlier this year.
Now, she’s openly questioning the belief among Western leaders that Assad ordered the chemical weapons attack that took place earlier this week on his people. She spoke to CNN, saying
“So, yes, I’m skeptical,” …“Why should we just blindly follow this escalation of a counterproductive regime-change war?”
She also has taken her argument to FOX News, suggesting that the missile strike President Trump ordered in response to the chemical weapons attack was
“an illegal and unconstitutional military strike.”
You might want to consider Gabbard some crackpot on the left, but you should remember that she’s a Gulf War veteran. She also sits on the House Foreign Relations Committee. In other words, she’s not the caricature of the lefty.
Her stance will guarantee her a national media spotlight that almost certainly will lead to a run at the White House. That is, unless it becomes clear that Assad did order the attack, in which case any further political ambitions she might hold will be gone.
