Follow this “logic” — Assad approves chemical weapons against his people, and its Obama’s fault

Syrian president Bashar al-Assad authorized the dropping of chemical weapons on his people today. And the White House has blamed Barack Obama for allowing it to happen.

Al Jazeera has some of the most grim details (and gruesome images) of what took place in Idlib province.

At least 58 people, including 11 children, were killed in the rebel-held Syrian town of Khan Sheikhoun in Idlib province on Tuesday, doctors and a monitor said. …

Syria’s military denied the accusation in a statement, saying the army “denies using any toxic or chemical agents in Khan Sheikhoun today, and it did not and never will use it anywhere”.

That denial is a lie, multiple world leaders, including President Donald Trump, said.

As to why this disgusting act is Obama’s fault? The Associated Press reports that the Trump administration wants you to believe that Obama was weak when it came to dealing with international pariahs.

“These heinous actions by the Bashar al-Assad regime are a consequence of the past administration’s weakness and irresolution,” Trump said, in a reference to Obama’s failure to strike in 2013 after saying a chemical attack by Assad would cross a U.S. red line.

Reuters tracked down Syrian opposition leaders, who told that news agency

“The first reaction from Syrians is that this is a direct consequence of American statements about Assad not being a priority and giving him time and allowing him to stay in power,” Basma Kodmani told Reuters in Washington.
