What? Journalist interviews city attorney, gets $64 bill for time

Yup, it happened in one Washington city. And needless to say, journalists are hacked off (as they should be).

As the Whidbey News Times reports, Langley mayor Tom Callison made the decision, saying

the “city attorney’s time is not free” and that the newspaper should reimburse city hall.

Hogwash!

As the story continues, it notes

The mayor’s move is being criticized by champions of open government, attorneys and elected Langley officials alike, describing it as “unusual” and “ludicrous.”

Mayor Callison, you’re a joke.
