Texas governor, to county sheriff: Won’t do what I tell you to do? Fine, I’m taking nearly $2-million from you

The Dallas Morning News has the details of a Texas-sized showdown between the state’s governor and one county sheriff.

Travis County Judge Sarah Eckhardt said none of the funds Abbott has taken from the county were used for immigration purposes and none of them went directly to the Sheriff’s Department. Instead, the funds went to special court programs that help rehabilitate drug-addicted prostitutes and prevent family violence, among other things.

“It is retribution for a lawful but political stance that is adverse to his political stance,” Eckhardt said at a news conference.
