Another successful year for FOX News

Celebrating its 20th year on cable, Fox News finished 2016 as the most-watched basic cable network in prime time and total day, a first for the network. (TVNewser)

This year represents the most-watched year ever for 36-year-old CNN. The original cable news network also had its best year in the key adults 25-54 demo since 2008, the last time there was an open presidential election. CNN will close out 2016 as the seventh-most-watched basic cable network in prime time among total viewers, its highest ranking since 1995 (in 2015 CNN ranked as No. 22). The network also ranked No. 10 in total day viewers. (TVNewser)

MSNBC had its most-watched year since the network launched in 1996. It also delivered more year-over-year growth than rivals CNN and Fox News. While still trailing its rivals, MSNBC grew 87 percent in total prime-time viewers and 97 percent in the prime-time demo from 2015. The network also shot up 71 percent in total day viewers and 72 in the demo from 2015. (TVNewser)

Drilling down to individual programs, Fox News had a lot to be happy about when it came to its prime-time lineup. The O’Reilly Factor remained the top-rated show in cable news, topping all programs in total viewers (3.3 million) and the 25-54 demo (572,000), and experiencing double-digit growth compared to last year.
