That teenager is now a mother and back in her native Afghanistan. And the pain is etched all over her face. DW.com has the story.

Sharbat Gula, the woman who became famous for gracing the cover of National Geographic as a girl, has returned to Afghanistan after being deported from Pakistan. She was recently discharged from hospital where she was being treated for Hepatitis C.
