The Big 10 (with 14 teams!!!!) ranked by…

…the quality of its journalism/ communications programs.

The Big 10 conference’s leaders (who might not necessarily be legends) announced on Sunday that beginning in 2014, the 14-team league will be aligned along geographic lines.

And that got me thinking that the strength of the new lineup ought to be based not on athletic abilities but instead on the quality of its journalism/communications programs.

What follows is the ranking of each school predicated on that quality.

This admittedly light-hearted and subjective list ought to get the juices flowing in at least a few people:

EAST DIVISION
Indiana
Maryland
Michigan State
Penn State
Michigan
Rutgers
Ohio State

WEST DIVISION
Northwestern
Wisconsin
Nebraska
Minnesota
Iowa
Illinois
Purdue

Now, let’s go a step further, cut them in half and rank them 1-7.

7. Minnesota
6. Michigan State
5. Nebraska
4. Maryland
3. Wisconsin
2. Indiana
1. Northwestern

Let the reactions begin!
